Explain the Hybrid Pilates Reformer/Band Mat Class. Why do I need to take 4 mat classes and an Intro class?

The Hybrid PRB mat class mimics moves done on the Reformer using special tubing attached to the wall. Because Pilates is a very “precise movement based” practice it is important to understand the basic fundamentals of Pilates which you will learn in the Pilates Beginner Mat Classes. The Intro to Hybrid PRB mat class will teach you how to set up your station properly, determine what band strengths you need for various upper and lower body moves, learn your personal modifications for exercises, and answer any questions. It is important that when you enter the Hybrid PRB Mat Class that you are prepared and knowledgeable about what you are doing! Working with springs can be dangerous if not used properly. It is important to know what you are doing!

**if you are a more advanced Pilates student you can speak with Stacey Valant about advancing through the mat classes and on to the Intro class.

What is the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

While both Pilates and Yoga focus on mind-body connection and improving flexibility and strength, they have distinct differences.

Pilates is a more structured and intense form of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920’s. It often involves specialized equipment like Reformers and focuses on building core strength, stability, flexibility and overall muscle tone. Pilates exercises are dynamic and usually involve controlled movements with a specific number of repetitions.  It is well known for it’s injury prevention benefits and quick results as well as the fact that you don’t bulk up with muscle but rather tone & streamline your physique when doing Pilates. “In ten sessions you will feel the difference, in twenty sessions you will see the difference and in thirty sessions you will have a whole new body” – Joseph Pilates

Yoga, on the other hand, has a broader range of styles and practices and has been around for over 5000 years. It often includes various poses, meditation, and breath control. Yoga tends to emphasize flexibility, balance, and relaxation. Unlike Pilates, Yoga doesn't always follow a strict set of repetitions or use specialized equipment and also focuses more on expansion and freedom of movement.

In summary, while both Pilates and Yoga contribute to overall well-being, Pilates is more targeted towards strength, stretching and stability with structured movements, while Yoga encompasses a variety of practices emphasizing flexibility, balance, and relaxation.

Why is private Pilates more expensive?

Private Pilates sessions tend to be more expensive for a few reasons. Firstly, you're paying for one-on-one attention from a certified instructor, which ensures that the workout is tailored specifically to your needs and goals. The personalized guidance can be invaluable, especially if you have specific health concerns or fitness objectives.

Secondly, Pilates instructors often go through extensive training and certification programs, many of which take over a year to complete and can contribute to the overall cost. Their expertise and ability to provide individualized instruction justify the higher price. You pay for what you get.

Lastly, the equipment used in Pilates studios, such as Reformers and Cadillacs, can be expensive to purchase and maintain. The cost of maintaining a well-equipped studio is also reflected in the pricing of private sessions.

While private sessions may seem pricey, many people find the personalized attention and benefits well worth the investment in their health and fitness. If cost is a concern, exploring group classes or semi-private sessions might be more budget-friendly alternatives.
